Importing Barricade Tape from India to UAE: Duties, Standards and Lead Times

Ask any site engineer in Dubai or Abu Dhabi what gets consumed fastest on a live project and safety consumables sit near the top — and barricade tape is the cheapest item on that list with the highest visibility. Road works under RTA supervision, villa communities handover, event fencing on Sheikh Zayed Road, oil and gas laydown yards in Ruwais: every one of them unrolls kilometres of warning tape a month. The UAE imports nearly all of it, and most of it comes from Gujarat. We manufacture barricade tape at our Kalol plant near Ahmedabad and supply UAE distributors, safety equipment traders and event contractors by the pallet and by the container, so this page collects the practical answers: classification, duty, conformity, print and how fast tape actually reaches a Dubai warehouse from an Indian port.

What UAE buyers order

The workhorse is a 75mm (3 inch) wide HDPE tape in 200 or 300 metre rolls at 20-40 micron, wound on a small core and packed 24 to 48 rolls per printed carton. Orange with black print carries most of the volume; red for danger zones, yellow for caution, red-and-white and yellow-and-black for high-visibility barricading, and plain green for safety zones. Because the audience is multilingual, the best-moving stock is printed in both English and Arabic — "CAUTION / تنبيه" style legends — and distributors increasingly carry their own house-brand print, which we run from approved artwork. For Gulf conditions the non-negotiable spec is UV stabilisation: unstabilised tape chalks and shreds within weeks under a summer sun, so we run UV masterbatch calibrated for 6 to 12 months of outdoor exposure and say so on the technical sheet.

HS classification, duty and VAT

Non-adhesive plastic tape of the barricade type is usually classified under HS 3920.10 (polyethylene in rolls) or, for certain constructions, 3926.20 as a plastics article — self-adhesive variants move under 3919. Your clearing agent fixes the exact line, but the financial outcome is stable across them: UAE customs duty is 5% CIF, and 5% VAT applies at import. There is no excise on warning tape and nofree-circulation paperwork beyond the standard set. For a trader, the arithmetic is comfortable — a 40-foot container of tape carries a tiny duty bill relative to value, which is one reason UAE stockists can hold deep inventory and still land competitively against local fabrication.

Conformity and site expectations

Warning tape is not on the restricted list the way some regulated products are, but UAE authorities and main contractors still ask for paper. ESMA/ECAS conformity applies to categories of plastic goods where relevant, and municipality or client specs frequently call for a material test report — tensile values, thickness verification and UV exposure data. We supply a batch test certificate with every shipment and can have rolls tested by an independent house in India before loading when a tender demands third-party numbers. Print durability matters as much as film: legends must stay legible after months of flapping in a Shamal wind, so we print with inks proven on HDPE and hold Pantone references for repeat orders.

Route and lead times

This is one of the shortest ocean corridors in our export book. Mundra to Jebel Ali runs three to five days port to port with multiple weekly sailings; Port Rashid handles some consignments for older Dubai agents, and Sharjah or Abu Dhabi deliveries ride the same corridor. Add 2 to 4 days for clearance and delivery inside the Emirates and a realistic door-to-door plan is two weeks from production close to warehouse — three at the most in Ramadan and year-end peaks. Production itself runs 5 to 8 days for stock colours and 10 to 14 days for custom house-brand print including artwork approval. Most first-time UAE buyers start with a 20-foot container or even an LCL pallet trial; repeat accounts consolidate to 40-foot mixed cartons of their two or three fastest colours.

Documents and Incoterms

The pack is standard: commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin attested where the buyer's bank needs it, bill of lading and our batch test certificate. We ship FOB Mundra and CIF Jebel Ali routinely, and DDP into Dubai or Abu Dhabi for traders who prefer one landed number. If you are mapping the wider range, our barricade tape manufacturing line lists widths, colours and print options, and our caution tape rolls page covers the smaller-core variant retailers prefer. For ground-level utility work, see underground warning tape, which is a different product with different printing — worth separating on your import plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the MOQ for barricade tape to the UAE?

An LCL pallet of 8,000 to 12,000 rolls works for a trial; a 20-foot container around 250,000 rolls is the efficient floor. House-brand print usually starts at one container per colour set.

Can you print Arabic legends and our logo?

Yes — bilingual English-Arabic legends and customer logos are routine. Artwork approval takes about five working days and we hold the cylinders for repeat orders.

How long does the tape last outdoors in UAE summer?

Our UV-stabilised grades are built for 6 to 12 months of Gulf exposure. Unstabilised commodity tape fades in weeks, which is why we do not ship it.

What is the total lead time door to door?

Production 5 to 14 days depending on print, ocean 3 to 5 days to Jebel Ali, clearance and delivery 2 to 4 days. Plan on two to three weeks from PO to warehouse.
