The zipper is the cheapest customer-retention device in packaging. A reclosable pouch keeps the product in your package on the shelf, and your brand in the consumer's pantry for weeks after opening. We produce zipper pouches across structures and sizes for US retail brands, hardware, supplements, snacks, apparel, and the buying decisions compress into four: zipper type, format, barrier and print. Here is each one, plainly.
Press-close or slider?
Press-close zippers are the standard: reliable, low cost, familiar to every consumer. Slider zippers cost more per pouch and earn it on larger formats and premium products, where the slider reads as quality and works with gloves or weak grip. Both need a tear notch above the zipper and a clear "open here" fold; a pouch that rips past the zipper on first open destroys the feature, so conversion quality at that fold is where factories separate.
Format and barrier, decided by product
Stand-up pouches with a bottom gusset dominate retail because they shelf like boxes and pack flat in containers. Lay-flat three-side seal suits single-serve and hardware. Barrier follows the product: PET/PE for dry goods, metallized PET middles for aroma and oxygen protection, foil for long-storage premium. Zippers themselves come in single and double-track; double-track closes more confidently on heavier contents like hardware.
Indicative pricing
| Format | Indicative FOB (per pouch) |
|---|---|
| 3x5 in, press-close, basic barrier | $0.05 - $0.08 |
| 5x8 in stand-up, press-close, MPET barrier | $0.09 - $0.14 |
| 8x12 in stand-up, slider, MPET/foil | $0.15 - $0.24 |
Print runs gravure up to 10 colors; cylinders are one-time and stay on file. Minimums are one production run per design, with air-shipped printed samples for approval. Production 3 to 4 weeks, ocean 4 to 6 weeks East Coast, and flat-shipping keeps freight per pouch at pennies.
Retail buyer questions
Will the zipper survive the filling line?
Specify your filling method at RFQ: pre-made pouches for machine filling need validated top-seal parameters above the zipper so the closure never welds shut. We supply seal-temp windows with the pouches.
Can we do a matte finish with a glossy logo zone?
Yes, spot-gloss over matte is a standard premium look on laminated pouches and photographs well on shelf.
Zipper formats and barriers are on the Zipper Pouches page. For full food structures see multilayer food pouches, and for film supply read the BOPP film rolls guide.
