Non-woven polypropylene bags are the volume player of the reusable bag world: trade show floors, pharmacy counters, church events, university bookstores, political campaigns. They are not woven bags, and pretending they are identical does buyers a disservice. Non-woven PP is bonded fiber: soft feel, screen-friendly print surface, lower price, shorter working life. For programs measured in single events or seasons, that trade is exactly right. We produce non-woven bags at scale for US distributors, and here is the buying math.
GSM is the durability dial
| GSM | Typical use | Indicative FOB (per bag) |
|---|---|---|
| 40 - 60 | Events, giveaways, single campaigns | $0.25 - $0.38 |
| 70 - 90 | Retail carry, bookstores, pharmacies | $0.32 - $0.50 |
| 100 - 120 | Heavy grocery duty, multi-season programs | $0.45 - $0.70 |
The most common complaint in this category, handles failing early, is almost always a 50 GSM bag asked to do 90 GSM work. Match GSM to reuse expectation and the product is honestly good; mismatch it and no factory can save the program. Our GSM-and-style selection logic applies the same way it does for woven bags: start from the heaviest thing customers actually carry.
Handle styles decide the look and the cost
D-cut (punch handle) is the economy loop-free style for apparel and takeaway. U-cut adds reinforcement. Stitched loop handles carry real weight and read as a proper tote. Box-cut bags with side gussets and a base stand square for grocery use. Lamination, a PP film heat-bonded to the non-woven, upgrades print to photo-grade and stiffens the bag; laminated totes are the standard for branded retail programs at $0.45 to $0.90 depending on size and coverage.
Print and program logistics
Non-woven takes screen print and heat transfer beautifully, and gravure on laminate for full-coverage brand work. Plate and screen setup is modest and stays on file. Minimums run one production run per design; mixed colors and sizes pack efficiently in the same container. Production is 3 to 4 weeks with print approval, ocean 4 to 6 weeks East Coast, and because bags are light, a 40-ft high cube carries tens of thousands of units, keeping freight per bag to cents.
Program buyer questions
Woven or non-woven for our retail program?
If customers carry the bag weekly for years, woven pays its premium in lifespan. If the bag is seasonal, event-based or promotional, non-woven hits the price point and looks the part. We make both and will say which one fits your reuse math.
Can we match a Pantone color?
On laminated bags, yes, closely. On uncoated non-woven, expect slight softness in very light shades; we proof on material before committing.
