HDPE Pond Liner Wholesale: Farm Ponds, Aquaculture, Containment

Pond liner buyers fall into two groups: those who spec thickness for the pond they are building, and those who buy on price and call us in three years about a seam. HDPE geomembrane is the industrial answer for farm ponds, aquaculture, irrigation reservoirs and containment where life expectancy is measured in decades, and where liner replacement is practically a rebuild. We extrude geomembrane and ship large panels to US contractors and farm suppliers. Here is how the selection actually works.

Thickness by pond, not by brochure

20 mil (0.5 mm) suits small, well-prepared ponds with sand cushioning and light duty. 30 mil is the workhorse for farm ponds and aquaculture: enough puncture margin over typical subgrade after reasonable prep. 40 mil and heavier go under rocky subgrades, heavy equipment traffic and containment duty where regulatory thickness requirements may apply. Textured sheet adds friction on side slopes where animals, equipment or steep geometry need grip; smooth rolls faster and welds faster on gentle geometry. The subgrade preparation question, more than the thickness question, decides how a liner ages.

Panel logistics are the real project management

Large ponds run large panels. We factory-fabricate panels to the pond dimensions and fold them for container shipping; field welding joins panels with dual-wedge welders and test seams. Contractors familiar with HDPE know the routine; for first-time installs we supply welding guidance and the material compatibility (same resin family) that makes field seams reliable. Indicative FOB runs $0.28 to $0.45 per square foot for 30 mil smooth, with texture and heavy gauges upward from there. A 40-ft container carries a very large panel count because geomembrane is dense but packs flat, so freight per square foot stays modest even inland.

Where HDPE wins, and where it does not

HDPE wins on chemical resistance, UV stability and multi-decade life at the lowest cost per square foot among durable liners. Its trade-off is stiffness: small decorative ponds with complex geometry often suit EPDM or reinforced polyethylene instead, which conform tighter around roots and shelves. For production ponds, reservoirs and containment, HDPE is the default for good reason, and we say so when a caller's project genuinely fits something else.

Buyer questions we hear weekly

Do we need underlayment?

On prepared clay or sand subgrade, usually not. On rocky ground, a geotextile underlayment is cheap insurance against the punctures that ruin liners; we supply it alongside and recommend it honestly based on subgrade, not on adding a line item.

Can fish go straight in?

Yes for aquaculture-grade HDPE; rinse and flush the pond after installation, and follow your aquaculture stocking protocol as usual. The material is inert once clean.
