Caution Tape in Bulk: 3x1000 ft Rolls, ANSI Colors, Case Pricing

Yellow caution tape outsells every other safety barrier product combined, and most of it is bought by people who will never meet the manufacturer. That is the bulk business in one sentence: distributors, safety supply houses and big contractors buying cases on price and repeatability. We extrude caution tape continuously and pack it in the case configurations US buyers expect, so here is the level of detail that actually changes a purchase decision.

The spec that matters is gauge, not the slogan

Everyone prints CAUTION. Not every roll is 2 mil. Thin 1.5-mil tape costs less and fails sooner in wind and abrasion; 2 mil is the bulk-market standard and what most case pricing quotes; 3 mil suits long-duration sites and repeat stringing. On 3-inch width and 1,000-foot length, the gauge decision is a few cents per roll at container scale and the difference between one site day and one site week of barrier life. Buy gauge deliberately, not accidentally.

Colors and the standards behind them

Yellow with black CAUTION is the general-hazard workhorse. Red DANGER marks serious hazard zones. Orange and blue serve utility marking duties; magenta-purple appears on radiation and reclaimed-water legends in some states. The ANSI Z535 color framework sits behind these conventions, and while barricade tape is not itself a regulated barrier, crews trained under OSHA-style site safety read these colors instinctively. Keep legends consistent across a site, and stock both yellow and red per case if your customers run mixed hazard zones.

Custom printed legends run $0.65 to $1.20 depending on colors. Tape is one of the lightest products we ship, a 40-ft container moves millions of feet, so freight is effectively noise in landed cost. Stock colors produce in 2 weeks; customs need 3 to 4 weeks with plate approval, then 4 to 6 weeks ocean.

Distributor questions

Can cases mix yellow and red?

Yes, mixed cases and mixed pallets are routine; tell us the split when ordering and we pack to it.

What about repeatability?

Gauge, legend and ink are locked per PO spec, and we keep print records so reorders match visually and dimensionally. Consistency is the part of bulk tape buying that nobody specs and everybody notices.

Roll specs are on the Caution Tape Roll page. For site-specific messaging see custom printed barricade tape, and for marking before the dig read underground warning tape.
